Programs and Services Order in CouncilAn order in council is a vehicle used to exercise power that the Legislative Assembly has delegated to Cabinet. The delegation of power occurs through legislation so that decisions may be made without returning to the Legislature. The document is a directive issued by the Lieutenant Governor on the advice of Cabinet authorizing certain actions to be done. Orders in council serve a variety of purposes:
An order in council is effective the day that it is signed by the Lieutenant Governor unless another date is specified in the order. Each Monday morning following a weekly Cabinet meeting, orders in council passed at the previous Cabinet meeting are made available in the Cabinet Secretariat office and may be viewed between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on business days.
How do I get a copy of an order in council? If a copy of a specific order in council is desired, you may phone Cabinet Secretariat at (306) 787-6343 or e-mail cabsec@ec.gov.sk.ca. |
