MLA for Wood River 

Lieutenant-Colonel D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert was born in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. He enrolled in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1961 and was selected for pilot training and received his wings in 1968.

Following pilot training, Mr. Huyghebaert was posted to 421 Strike/Attack Squadron in Germany as a squadron pilot.

Later in his military career, Mr. Huyghebaert was selected as a member of the embassy staff in Washington, D.C. to consult with the United States on newly acquired CF-18 aircraft.

Mr. Huyghebaert flew with the famous Snowbirds Squadron for two tours. In 1974/1975, he flew as number nine solo pilot and in 1985/1986, he was the Snowbirds' team leader. In 1987, Her Excellency Jeanne Sauve invested Mr. Huyghebaert with the Order of Military Merit for his exceptional service with the Canadian Forces. In 1999 and 2000, Mr. Huyghebaert was the director for the Saskatchewan Air Show. Mr. Huyghebaert has also been involved with the Cold Lake Air Cadet Camp as the Commanding Officer.

In June of 2000, Mr. Huyghebaert was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as the MLA for Wood River, and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and again in 2011. He has served as the Chair of the Legislature's Standing Committee on the Economy and Chair of the caucus' Standing Policy Committee on the Economy.

Currently, Mr. Huyghebaert serves as the Minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing and as the Military Liaison for the Government of Saskatchewan.

Most recently in January 2011, Mr. Huyghebaert was appointed Honorary Colonel of 2 Canadian Force Flying Training School at 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

Mr. Huyghebaert and his wife Phyllis now reside on a small ranch in Glentworth. They have two married sons and six grandchildren.

Le lieutenant-colonel D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert est né à Lafleche, en Saskatchewan. Il s’est engagé dans l’Aviation royale du Canada en 1961 où il a été sélectionné pour suivre une formation de pilote. Il a obtenu son brevet de pilote en 1968.

Une fois sa formation complétée, M. Huyghebaert a été dépêché en Allemagne au sein du 421 Strike/Attack Squadron en tant que pilote d’escadron.

Huyghebaert a été élu à l'Assemblée législative de la Saskatchewan à titre de député de Wood River. Il a été réélu en 2003, 2007 et à nouveau en 2011. Il a siégé en tant que président du Comité permanent de l’Assemblée sur l’économie (Legislature’s Standing Committee on the Economy) et du Comité d’orientation permanent du caucus sur l’économie (Standing Policy Committee on the Economy).

En ce moment, M. Huyghebaert est ministre des Services correctionnels, de la Sécurité publique et des Services de police et officier de liaison militaire pour le gouvernement de la Saskatchewan.

Récemment, en janvier 2011, M. Huyghebaert a été nommé colonel honoraire de la 2e École de pilotage des Forces canadiennes de la 15e Escadre de Moose Jaw. 

M. Huyghebaert et sa femme Phyllis habitent actuellement un petit ranch à Glentworth. Ils ont deux fils mariés et six petits-enfants.
