MLA for Rosetown-Elrose

Jim Reiter was the long time administrator for the Rural Municipalities of Marriott and Pleasant Valley.

Professionally, Mr. Reiter has extensive experience in municipal governance. He has served as Director, Vice-President, and President of the Rural Municipal Administrators' Association (RMAA), as well as Executive Director. He has held numerous committee appointments for the RMAA including:  Disciplinary (Chair), Board of Examiners, Board of Reference, and Salary Negotiations (Chair).

Mr. Reiter was a Director on the Board of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) from 1998 to 2003. He represented SARM on various committees including: Audit Committee, Wilkinson Foundation, Lt. Governor's Award Committee, and the Municipal/Provincial Roundtable.

Mr. Reiter has also served as Chairman of the Municipal Employees' Pension Plan. Among his educational accomplishments is a Senior Certificate in Local Government Administration from the University of Regina. He also served six years on the U of R Senate. He has served his community as a Justice of the Peace and Marriage Commissioner. He has held executive positions on the Board of Rosetown and District Ducks Unlimited and has been a Director of the Rosetown Curling Club.

Mr. Reiter was first elected as the MLA for Rosetown-Elrose in the 2007 provincial election.  Following the formation of a Saskatchewan Party government, Premier Brad Wall asked Mr. Reiter to serve as the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Education, Property Tax Initiative.  His report formed the basis for the largest education property tax cut in a single year in the province's history. Mr. Reiter was a member of the caucus' Standing Policy Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies and was also a member of the legislature's Standing Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies, as well as the committee on Public Accounts.

In 2009, Premier Wall appointed Jim as Minister of Highways and Infrastructure and also minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC). On May 25, 2012, he was appointed as Minister of Government Relations and minister responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs.

Minister Reiter was re-elected by his constituents in 2011 provincial election. Jim and his wife Bonnie reside in Rosetown.

Jim Reiter a été pendant longtemps administrateur des municipalités rurales de Marriott et de Pleasant Valley.

Tour à tour, il a occupé les postes de directeur, de vice-président, de président et de directeur général de la Rural Municipal Administrators' Association (RMAA). De plus, il a représenté la RMAA au sein de bon nombre de comités, dont le comité disciplinaire (président), le comité d’examen, le conseil d’arbitrage et le comité sur les négociations salariales (président).

M. Reiter a aussi occupé les fonctions de directeur de la Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) de 1998 à 2003, période pendant laquelle il a représenté cette association à divers comités, dont le comité de vérification, la Wilkinson Foundation, le comité des prix du lieutenant-gouverneur et la table ronde municipale-provinciale. De plus, M. Reiter a agi à titre de président du régime de pension des employés municipaux.

M. Reiter a entre autres obtenu un certificat supérieur (Senior Certificate) de l’Université de Regina en administration municipale. Il a aussi siégé pendant six ans au sénat de cette université. Dans sa communauté, M. Reiter a agi à titre de juge de paix et de commissaire aux mariages. Il a aussi occupé des postes de direction au sein du conseil de Canards Illimités de Rosetown et district et du club de curling de Rosetown.

Élu pour la première fois comme député de Rosetown-Elrose aux élections provinciales de 2007, M. Reiter a par la suite été nommé par le premier ministre Brad Wall au poste de secrétaire législatif du ministre de l’Éducation, pour ce qui est de l’initiative sur l’impôt foncier (Property Tax Initiative). Grâce à son travail, le gouvernement a pu procéder en une année à la plus grande réduction de la taxe foncière pour l’éducation de l’histoire de la province. M. Reiter a aussi siégé au Comité sur les politiques des sociétés d’État et des organismes centraux de son caucus (Standing Policy Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies), au Comité permanent sur les sociétés d’État et les organismes centraux de l’Assemblée législative (Standing Committee on Crowns and Central Agencies), ainsi qu’au comité des comptes publics. M. Reiter a été réélu par ses électeurs en 2011.
