In April 2008, the provincial government allocated $400,000 to process 320,000 kilograms of pork which was donated to food banks across the province. The supply of protein will last food banks for nearly a year.

Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan

His Honour the Honourable Dr. Gordon L. Barnhart, S.O.M., Ph.D. became Saskatchewan’s 20th lieutenant governor on August 1, 2006.  He and his wife Naomi have a blended family of three grown children and four grandchildren. 

The lieutenant governor is the direct representative in Saskatchewan of Her Majesty The Queen of Canada and exercises powers as Head of State within provincial jurisdiction. The lieutenant governor personifies the Crown in Saskatchewan, which is both head and the common link in the constitutional and political structure of the Province - Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.
