News Release - June 1, 2005 YOUTH TO SHARE IDEAS WITH SASKYOUTH.NET ESSAY CONTEST
An online essay contest is asking Saskatchewan youth to share their ideas about employment and leadership opportunities. The winner will get the opportunity to help shape provincial policy on youth issues.
The SaskYouth.net contest runs from June 1st to July 15th, and is open to Saskatchewan youth aged 14 – 29. Entrants may choose one of five essay questions related to employment and leadership opportunities. "It's important to engage young people in the policy-making process because being involved provides an understanding of the process which can inspire them to continue participating," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. The contest winner will be announced August 1st. The winning entrant will receive a SaskTel Mobility cell phone with a $250 credit and the top five submissions will be posted on the website, giving youth the opportunity to have their work seen across the province. "Saskatchewan youth are innovative, insightful and very passionate," Beatty said. "These qualities, along with the benefit of their experiences and contributions, make young people incredibly valuable resources for the province and we are very excited to hear what they have to say about issues that are important to them." SaskYouth.net is a website that provides helpful and relevant information to young people about issues that affect them.
