MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR NORTHERN AFFAIRS ATTENDS NORTHERN ECONOMIC SUMMIT IN B.C.

Minister responsible for Northern Affairs June Draude will attend Opportunities North: The Northern Economic Summit in Prince George, British Columbia, January 22-23.

"Just as it is in Saskatchewan, the northern regions of other provinces and territories in Canada reflect strong potential in the diversity and richness of their natural resources, and have the ability to help all our economies weather the uncertainty spreading around the world right now," Draude said. "We want to ensure that Saskatchewan continues to enjoy every advantage it can, as we seek to maintain our economy's forward momentum. One way to do this is to ensure we are talking with our neighbouring jurisdictions about our respective situations."

The summit is being spear-headed by British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell who is gathering business, community and government leaders to discuss critical issues that affect the North across Canada.

The summit is a chance for leaders to explore the challenges and potential opportunities of the North. Northern regions across the country are proving to be economic powerhouses that are helping Canada navigate the economic slowdown.

The goal of the summit is to create an interactive experience that features prominent speakers and government officials. Conference participants will discuss issues like the state of the global economy, green technologies that can create jobs, transportation, productivity and labour mobility, international trade and economic diversification.
