SASKATCHEWAN DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD PRESENTED

Premier Lorne Calvert presented the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award today to John Lau and Wilton Littlechild.

John Lau is the CEO of Husky Energy in Calgary. He was responsible for the expansion and development of a biofuels industry in Saskatchewan with the construction of an ethanol facility in Lloydminster.

Wilton Littlechild, Indigenous Peoples' Counsel, has been active in representing Indigenous Peoples in organizations and has contributed significantly to the social, cultural and long-term economic development of Saskatchewan.

"I am pleased that knowledgeable experts from outside Saskatchewan have taken an interest in our province and have contributed to the great strides we are making," Calvert said. "Through industry, agriculture, technology, the arts, education and finance, Saskatchewan now reaches into every corner of the world."

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes non-residents of the province who have made outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan and the development of the provincial economy and society.

Including this year's recipients, 19 non-residents have received the Distinguished Service Award since its inception in 1997.

The two Distinguished Service Award recipients also received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal today.
