TOWN OF LAMPMAN RECEIVES FINAL PAYMENT FOR FLOOD PROTECTION

Today, the Water Security Agency provided the final payment for flood protection efforts to the Town of Lampman in co-operation with the Lake Roy Watershed Association.

More than $640,000 was provided through the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program (EFDRP) for construction of berms and a storm water lift station to protect the town from flooding.

"Lampman has been one of the hardest hit areas in the province as they continue to deal with these water-related issues," Minister responsible for the Water Security Agency Ken Cheveldayoff said. "It's important for the people of Saskatchewan to know that this government is here to take action so that our communities can continue to grow and prosper."

Since 2011, the Water Security Agency has committed nearly $6 million to the Town of Lampman and the surrounding area to deal with flood protection and mitigation efforts as a result of the record amounts of precipitation in 2010 and 2011.

"Our town has been through a lot of the last few years and we want to thank the provincial government for providing this funding to ensure our citizens are safe and secure," Lampman Mayor Scott Greening said.

The EFDRP provides assistance to implement emergency flood damage reduction or prevention measures for communities, rural municipalities, businesses and individual farm and country residences. Since being established in 2011, the EFDRP has provided $27.7 million in support to 363 communities and rural municipalities, 1,112 owners of yard sites or businesses and 18 First Nation communities.

The Water Security Agency was created to lead implementation of the 25 Year Saskatchewan Water Security Plan. It will improve water management capacity and service to individuals, businesses and communities across Saskatchewan. This new agency brings together, for the first time, all of the major responsibilities related to water quality and quantity.
