News Release - August 29, 2003 LABOUR DAY MESSAGE
This coming Monday, September 1st is Labour Day - a national holiday since 1894.
Labour Minister Deb Higgins said Labour Day is an occasion for everyone to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of the working people, past and present, who have helped build Saskatchewan and Canada. "Saskatchewan's working women and men are dedicated, innovative and productive. Every day, they produce the goods and services that have earned our province its international reputation as a prosperous place in which to live, work and invest," Higgins said. "They build our homes and workplaces, educate us, care for our ill, provide for our security, and deliver the goods and services on which our lives and livelihoods depend." Saskatchewan has one of the most diverse and vibrant economies in Canada, involving a vast wealth of agri-business, natural resources, manufacturing, advanced technology, life sciences and service sectors. We are successfully meeting our human resource challenges, through our knowledgeable and talented labour force, supported by our world-class education system. "For over a century, Labour Day has further reminded us of the importance of balancing our work and family obligations. On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, it is my honour to extend heartfelt thanks to working people and their employers everywhere, and to wish each of you a safe, secure Labour Day 2003," Higgins said. -30- For More Information, Contact:
