News Release - September 29, 2003 PROVINCE'S MINING INITIATIVES GET NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Major initiatives that Saskatchewan has introduced recently to stimulate exploration and increase jobs in the mineral sector were formally acknowledged today at the Mines Ministers' Annual Conference in Halifax.
The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) presented an award to Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline in recognition of Saskatchewan's work toward creating a business climate that is attracting new investment. PDAC's certificate highlights Saskatchewan's enhanced geoscience funding, incentives for both prospectors and junior mineral exploration companies and various other tax measures that make the province very competitive. "These initiatives are a result of close consultation with many mineral industry stakeholders. They are a great example of people working together to create opportunities for investment and job growth," Cline said. "In fact, we're expecting exploration activities to climb significantly this year." Thirteen different minerals are produced in the province and Saskatchewan is the largest producer of potash and uranium in the world. Mineral sales are approximately $2.4 billion annually and the sector accounts for approximately six per cent of the province's gross domestic product. -30- For More Information, Contact:
