TOURISM AWARENESS WEEK JUNE 1st - 7th

The richness, diversity and excitement of Saskatchewan's tourism industry takes centre stage during Tourism Awareness Week, June 1st to 7th.

The spotlight will shine brightly on the province's many great destinations and venues with a variety of events and promotions aimed at increasing awareness of the industry and its contributions to the province.

"Saskatchewan's thriving tourism industry makes immense contributions to our province," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "It provides jobs, generates revenue and enhances our overall quality of life. The vast array of tourism experiences and adventures that we have to offer is in many ways an embodiment of our wide open future."

Special Tourism Awareness Week activities include an RV tour by members of Tourism Saskatchewan to promote tourism awareness around the province, Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council recognition dinners saluting individuals who have achieved national certification in tourism occupations, and free travel counseling at Regina's Southland Mall.

Tourism Saskatchewan will also release results from its recent marketing campaign during the week.

"Tourism Awareness Week is our industry's opportunity to focus additional attention on tourism," Tourism Saskatchewan President and CEO Roy Anderson said. "We're excited about recent market responses to Saskatchewan as a travel destination. This week, we hope to enhance our own residents' knowledge, interest and participation in tourism's many events, attractions and opportunities."

The public can learn more about Saskatchewan's vibrant tourism industry, and the more than 600 events which take place in communities across the province year-round, by visiting Tourism Saskatchewan's web site, at www.sasktourism.com.

Tourism generates $1.3 billion in revenue for Saskatchewan each year and wholly supports more than 22,000 jobs in the province.
