PROVINCE HELPS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD A HOME FOR THREE PARTNER FAMILIES IN SASKATOON

Three Habitat for Humanity partner families in Saskatoon will soon realize their dream of homeownership, with $150,000 in funding assistance from the province through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

"Building homes and building communities in Saskatchewan is a vision that we share with Habitat for Humanity," Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude said. "Housing is a key priority of our government. With our partners, we are working to create a better life for families in housing need, and to meet the needs of our growing province."

"Thanks to our partners, the Government of Saskatchewan and Conexus Credit Union, we will be able to provide homes for three low income, working families in Saskatoon," Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon Executive Director Barb Cox-Lloyd said. "Habitat families across Saskatchewan contribute to their communities economically and socially, so we are very happy to be able to provide homes with assistance from the government and Saskatchewan corporations."

The Habitat for Humanity home, located at 602 Avenue G South in Saskatoon, will be a three-plex bi-level. Each unit is 1,260 square feet over two levels with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Estimated construction completion is April 2013.

Since 2009, the province has dedicated $4.5 million in funding for Habitat for Humanity affiliates and chapters in Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Yorkton, Prince Albert, Lloydminster, Nipawin and Humboldt to help build a total of 90 homes across the province. Habitat for Humanity anticipates a total of 35 construction starts throughout Saskatchewan in 2012.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The organization mobilizes volunteers and partners to build homes that provide families of low-income with access to affordable homeownership.
