News Release - June 30, 2004 SIX HONOURED WITH SASKATCHEWAN DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Premier Lorne Calvert today announced the names of the six recipients of the Saskatchewan Distinguished Service Award.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes non-residents of the province who have made outstanding contributions to Saskatchewan and the development of the provincial economy and society. Recipients this year are: • Ken Battle, President of the Caledon Institute of Social Policy in Ottawa; • Adrian Burns, Vice-Chair of the National Arts Centre, Ottawa; • Judith Maxwell, President of the Canadian Policy Research Network, Ottawa; • Steve McGirr, Deputy Chairman of CIBC World Markets, from Toronto; • John Richards, Public Policy Program, Simon Fraser University in Vancouver; and • Sir Conrad Swan, former head of heraldry in the United Kingdom. "Inter-provincial and international relations are vital to Saskatchewan and its economy," Calvert said. "We are pleased to have close cultural and social ties with peoples across the globe and to have the opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions they make to the well-being of Saskatchewan and its residents." "I am pleased that we are able to acknowledge these six individuals," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "Throughout the diverse fields of investment, social policy, symbols and honours, heritage and community service they have helped bring positive attention to Saskatchewan. This Award is a way to honour six outstanding people for their service to our province."
