News Release - July 10, 2008 GOVERNMENT ENDS EQUALIZATION REFERENCEThe Government of Saskatchewan has decided to withdraw a reference to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal on the equalization issue. "These are great economic times in the province of Saskatchewan," Justice Minister Don Morgan said. "Resource revenues have moved us from a have-not province to a have province. And our government is working hard to ensure Saskatchewan remains a have province for many years to come. "In addition to the tremendous opportunities provided by our resource sector, we now enjoy a renewed and healthy relationship with the federal government. It is through this relationship that we can accomplish many of our goals and objectives, such as the new bridge project for Saskatoon. "When our government heads to Ottawa, it is with our sleeves rolled up ready to work, not with our cap in hand." Morgan added the Saskatchewan government will continue to pressure Ottawa for funding to address priorities such as infrastructure, skills training and other areas which ensure that all Saskatchewan people benefit from the province's economic momentum. -30- For more information, contact: Laur'Lei Silzer |
