News Release - March 21, 2013 SASKATCHEWAN RETAIL SALES SET ANOTHER MONTHLY RECORDJanuary retail sales were the highest among the provinces with a 6.7 per cent increase over January 2012, according to figures released by Stats Canada today. On the national front, retail sales took a 0.1 per cent drop. “Saskatchewan’s economy is making gains with more people living and working in the province,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “Wages have also been trending higher which means more disposable income, hence the higher retail sales. Retail sales totalled $1.5 billion in January 2013, the highest on record for that month. “Our economy is moving forward in accordance with the Plan for Growth and solid economic management,” Boyd said. “This provides Saskatchewan people with the confidence they need to keep spending and keep our economy moving.” -30- For more information, contact: Deb Young |
