NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR VOLUNTEER MEDAL

Saskatchewan residents have until October 18th to nominate individuals for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The Medal recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

"Saskatchewan was built by people who demonstrated an uncommon work ethic and dedication to their communities and to the future," Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock said. "The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal recognizes those who have continued this extraordinary legacy."

"This Medal provides an important opportunity to express appreciation for the outstanding volunteers in our province," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "They make all of us proud to live in Saskatchewan."

Any Canadian citizen who is a current or former long-term resident of Saskatchewan is eligible for nomination. The only exceptions are presently serving members of Parliament or the Legislature, as well as the judiciary. Posthumous nominations are not accepted.

People may call toll-free 1-877-427-5505 for information and nomination forms or visit the web site at http://www.graa.gov.sk.ca/Protocol/Honours/SVM.htm.

Since its inception in 1995, 72 recipients have received the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.
