News Release - March 12, 2010 PROVINCE PROCLAIMS 2010 AGRICULTURAL SAFETY WEEKAgricultural Safety Week in Saskatchewan will be observed March 14-20 Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud and Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris have proclaimed March 14-20 as Agricultural Safety Week in Saskatchewan. The week is held in conjunction with Canadian Agricultural Safety Week sponsored by the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. The 2010 theme, "Plan • Farm • Safety", encourages farm families to review their operations and make a safety plan that includes documentation, safety training and implementation. "This proclamation reminds us to emphasize safety on the farm at all times," Bjornerud said. "Farming can be a dangerous occupation and it is important to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves and others." Saskatchewan Agriculture provides funding to the Canadian Centre for Health and Safety in Agriculture to deliver safety initiatives and services for farm and ranch families. Two hundred RMs also contribute a significant amount to these projects. "The safety and well being of farmers, their families and their employees is a matter of concern for all of us," Norris said. "The elimination of farm injuries and deaths remains a key priority for everyone." Agricultural Safety Week is supported by numerous agricultural organizations including the Farmers with Disabilities Program of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, and the Saskatchewan Alliance for Safety and Health in Agriculture. -30- For more information, contact:
