REPORT IDENTIFIES POTENTIAL PRIVATE SECTOR SUPPORT FOR MULTI-PURPOSE ENTERTAINMENT FACILITY

According to a leading fundraising and sponsorship expert, the private sector could provide about $70 million in support of the proposed multi-purpose entertainment facility in Regina.

The provincial government today released a summary of the findings from Ketchum Canada Inc (KCI) on the potential for private support through avenues such as sponsorship and major philanthropic opportunities.

"We're thrilled with the results of the report as it shows the potential for significant financial support from the private sector," Minister responsible Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The Feasibility Report already identified opportunities for the private sector, such as naming rights for the facility. It's helpful to have a realistic target to shoot for, thanks to Ketchum Canada Inc. This is an important step in the capital accumulation phase of the project."

KCI identified several key factors that would positively influence private sector and philanthropic support for the proposed facility, including: strong appeal of and loyalty to the Saskatchewan Roughriders; the previous $10 million commitment by the Regina Hotel Association; and the fact that amateur sport and community groups would have access to the proposed facility. In addition, KCI noted that naming rights and sponsorship agreements have become substantial sources of revenue for other facilities in North America, and the potential also exists here given the strong economy.

KCI has been in business for more than 25 years. The company's expertise includes fundraising and sponsorship strategies, research and professional counsel and professional recruitment. The summary of KCI's findings is available at www.cicorp.sk.ca.

"The pieces of the puzzle are coming together," Cheveldayoff said. "We have a conditional land purchase agreement in place and we hope to hear soon from the federal government about our funding application."

The government expects to make a final decision later this year on whether or not to build the facility.
