MINISTER OF LABOUR RELATIONS AND WORKPLACE SAFETY APPOINTS SPECIAL MEDIATOR

Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan has appointed Richard Hornung as special mediator in a bid to end the contract dispute between Evraz Place (Regina Exhibition Association Ltd.) and The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) Local 568.

Mr. Hornung is a well known and accomplished mediator, conciliator and arbitrator with a national practice based in Calgary.  He is a former Chair of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board.

Under The Trade Union Act and The Human Resources, Labour and Employment Act, the Minister has the authority to appoint a special mediator to mediate and report to the Minister on any labour-management dispute.  Given the prolonged period of negotiations and the implications of this dispute for third parties hosting upcoming special events, the appointment of a special mediator is warranted.
