News Release - October 26, 2004 CARNDUFF RESIDENTS CELEBRATE OPENING OF NEW EDUCATION COMPLEX
Residents of Carnduff and surrounding area had much to celebrate today as they gathered to officially open the doors of the new Carnduff Education Complex. Saskatchewan Learning contributed $3 million to the new kindergarten to grade-twelve facility.
"This government made a commitment to the people of Saskatchewan to make our province ready for the next generation and to create future opportunities for youth. When we invest in projects such as the new Carnduff School we are meeting that commitment," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said at the opening ceremonies. "We understand that the school needs to grow along with the community and this modern, well-equipped facility will go a long way toward helping students in this area achieve their potential." The school division partnered with the Town of Carnduff and the Rural Municipality of Mount Pleasant to provide additional library and gymnasium space in the new facility. The total cost of the new school was approximately $6,350,000. The school has an enrolment of approximately 335 students. "I am pleased that Souris Moose Mountain and Saskatchewan Learning have worked together to make this new K-12 facility a reality," Souris Moose Mountain School Division board chair Bill Martin said. "I think the strong partnerships the board has developed with the Town of Carnduff, the R.M. of Mount Pleasant and the Southeast Regional Library make this building a true centre for the community, a great facility in which to educate youngsters, and moves us a step closer to the idea of SchoolPLUS." "Our goal is to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education and that they are given the supports they need to succeed in school and in life," Thomson said. "School capital projects help us achieve excellence in our education system and demonstrate our commitment to accessible, quality education for all Saskatchewan people, regardless of where they live." -30- For More Information, Contact:
