News Release - June 24, 2009 CONSTRUCTION SET TO BEGIN ON NEW ÉCOLE ST. ANNE SCHOOLStudents, families and staff of École St. Anne School in Prince Albert joined Deputy Premier and Education Minister Ken Krawetz to mark the beginning of the construction of their new school at a sod turning ceremony today. "High quality school facilities that meet the needs of students and their families help to support student achievement," Krawetz said. "We also want to keep Saskatchewan's economy strong and steady. By moving forward on much needed infrastructure projects like École St. Anne School, we are helping our children, our communities and our economy." The new École St. Anne School will be a dual track school delivering both English and French immersion programs with an expected opening enrolment of 400 students and a 25 space child care centre, but will be designed to accommodate a core enrolment of 450 students. The new school facility has a "green" design. Not only will the new school be a comfortable and attractive location for students to learn, it will also meet LEED Silver Certification standards. This means its environmental impact has been minimized through earth-friendly waste management and energy efficiency design features. The total estimated cost of the project is $13.25 million, with a Government of Saskatchewan contribution of $10.15 million. Construction is expected to begin on the new school this summer. Over the past two years, the Government of Saskatchewan has invested $333.4 million to move forward 22 major school capital projects including École St. Anne School, and more than 150 additional, smaller projects in schools across the province. -30- For more information, contact: Jacquie McLean |
