MOU SIGNED ON FIRST NATIONS UNIVERSITY

Saskatchewan's Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour says he's pleased to announce that members of a working group have reached agreement on the process for the reorganization and future operation of FNUniv for the next four years.

"This has been a significant challenge and because of its importance, strong emotions have been at the forefront," Norris said. "However today, I commend the hard work of all members of this working group."

The Memorandum of Understanding will see provincial dollars for First Nations University flow as certain conditions are met. Funds would flow to a national accounting firm in year one and in the following years to the University of Regina.

The MOU outlines the basis for legal agreements to be completed by May 1, 2010.

"This agreement also allows me to begin lobbying aggressively for the federal government to follow the provincial lead and invest in this partnership, an effort that begins this afternoon," Norris said.
