News Release - April 8, 2009 PUBLIC INPUT NEEDED FOR TICKET SELLING LEGISLATIONThe Ministry of Justice and Attorney General is looking for Saskatchewan people's opinions as it considers legislation to govern ticket selling and reselling in the province. "We are committed to having fair access to tickets for all consumers in Saskatchewan," Justice Minister Don Morgan said. "It is important that we deal with this issue and get it resolved as soon as possible." Ticket sales - and the contentious issue of online resellers - hit the headlines in Saskatchewan last year when tickets to a series of Elton John concerts were available through an online reseller only moments after the shows had sold out. Consumers complained to the government that they felt the ticket sales were handled unfairly. Similar complaints have been made across Canada and the U.S. in recent months. A discussion paper has been prepared outlining the various legislative options. Ticket-selling venues and vendors are also being consulted, and the Ministry would like to hear from the Saskatchewan ticket-buying public. The discussion paper is online at www.justice.gov.sk.ca.
