Sask. Residents Receiving Higher Tax Refunds Thanks to Provincial Income Tax Cuts

As the deadline to file 2008 tax returns approaches, many Saskatchewan residents have been enjoying higher tax refunds thanks to income tax reductions announced by the provincial government last fall.

"I've heard from many Saskatchewan people who have already filed their tax returns who tell me they are expecting larger refund cheques this year, thanks to the significant income tax reductions we announced last fall," said Finance Minister Rod Gantefoer. "I would remind those who have yet to file that the deadline is April 30 - so send in your returns, and look forward to that refund cheque."

Last October, Premier Brad Wall announced the largest single-year income tax reduction in Saskatchewan history. Saskatchewan people will realize $598 million in income tax savings this year, when the impacts of income tax reductions, the Low-Income Tax Credit and indexation are combined. When Education Property Tax Relief is factored in, savings climb even higher.

"Overall, we are putting more than $700 million back into the hands of Saskatchewan people this year through tax reductions, which will help keep our economy strong," Gantefoer said.
