PROVINCE ANNOUNCES FRANCOPHONE COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE FUND

Saskatchewan's francophone community now has access to additional infrastructure funding for community projects. Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer announced today the creation of the Francophone Community Infrastructure Fund (FCIF), to support the development and cultural vitality of the francophone community in Saskatchewan.

"Investment in our province's francophone community is investment in the future of our province," Harpauer said. "The Fransaskois play an important role in the economic and cultural development of our province. This funding program will not only support their growth but the growth of a strong and vibrant Saskatchewan as well."

FCIF will provide $100,000 annually for capital projects that:

  • enhance access to, and promote francophone culture and the French language;
  • enhance the quality and use of francophone community facilities; and
  • create greater opportunities to hold events that support cultural vitality.

Funding may be provided for up to two-thirds of the required funds to a maximum of $50,000 per project. Applicants must contribute at least one-third of all eligible costs.

FCIF will be managed by the Francophone Affairs Branch, Office of the Provincial Secretary. Applications will be accepted from registered charitable organizations, non-profits and cooperatives applying on behalf of the francophone community.

The application deadline for the 2011-12 fiscal year is September 1, 2011. Successful applicants will be contacted by the Office of the Provincial Secretary.

Application material and additional information on FCIF can be found at www.ops.gov.sk.ca/FCIF.
