HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 34 recipients in Regina today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.

"I am pleased that our province has the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal as a way to honour individuals who protect the people and property of our province," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "The work they do helps make a difference and a better life for everyone in the province."

Recipients receiving the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include:

• RCMP members from Yorkton, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Morse and Regina;

• municipal police from Regina;

• fire protection personnel from Lumsden, Moose Jaw, Regina, Balgonie, Springside, Semans, Weyburn, Bienfait and Portal;

• emergency medical personnel from Bengough and Kamsack; and,

• a Canadian Forces Sergeant from Moose Jaw.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
