BUILDING COMMUNITIES PROGRAM BENEFITS SANDY BAY

The Province of Saskatchewan has set aside $133,050 from the Building Communities Program for a new culture and recreational facility in Sandy Bay.

The Northern village of Sandy Bay will construct a community hall to serve a number of needs in the village. The new Multipurpose Facility will provide a location for weddings, dances, recreational activities for youth, court proceedings and a variety of other community events.

"Community facilities of this kind are particularly important for our northern communities. They provide numerous benefits for children, youth and families," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. "The multipurpose facility will further improve the quality of life for residents in and around Sandy Bay."

In addition to Sandy Bay, the Building Communities Program has committed funding in the amount of $6,598,595 for projects in Saskatoon, Martensville and Melville.

The Building Communities Program is in its third and final year. More than $90 million has been granted to communities across the province demonstrating the province's commitment to funding cultural, sport and recreational infrastructure. It also demonstrates a strong commitment to increasing tourism, encouraging economic and community growth and supporting Saskatchewan's young people.
