News Release - October 10, 2007 500 SASKATCHEWAN STUDENTS RECEIVE GOVERNMENT AWARD500 students from across Saskatchewan have been awarded a $400 academic achievement award from the provincial government through the Saskatchewan General Proficiency Awards program. "Our Government is committed to making Saskatchewan the best place for young people to live, work and build strong futures," Learning Minister Deb Higgins said. "This award contributes to the post-secondary education of young people who have demonstrated a commitment to learning. It will assist in their pursuit of knowledge and a career in our prosperous economy." These annual awards are granted to graduating students in provincial schools. This year, Saskatchewan Learning granted $200,000 in $400 awards to recipients for their post-secondary education. Awards will be distributed by Saskatchewan Learning later this month. The number of General Proficiency Awards issued is determined by the number of Grade 12 students enrolled in each school division. School divisions determine how many awards are given to each school and the schools nominate their best students. Nomination is based on Grade 12 marks.
