2010 LIBRARY EDUCATION BURSARY AWARDED

Zhizhong (Jack) Chang is the successful recipient of the 2010 Library Education Bursary. The annual $5,000 bursary offers funding to a student enrolled or accepted in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program, or equivalent, who will live and work in Saskatchewan for one year after graduating.

"I want to congratulate Mr. Chang on winning this award," Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. "The Library Education Bursary is an investment in our youth as well as our province's continued growth and success. I encourage other students to apply for the 2011 bursary, and to apply their skills to further develop Saskatchewan's knowledge based economy."

Chang was born in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, China. Since coming to Canada seven years ago, he has lived in different provinces to work on his post-graduate education, professional knowledge, language skills and research background. Chang is currently attending the University of British Columbia and doing a full-time co-op with the BC Ministry of Forests and Range Library, developing a weeding process and implementing a digitization plan.

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Saskatchewan Library Association, the Saskatchewan Provincial Library and Literacy Office, the Ministry of Education and the Multitype Library Board for their co-operative support and invitation to work in Saskatchewan upon my graduation," Chang said. "This bursary makes me feel more confident in building my professional career path and family life in Saskatchewan and I firmly believe that Saskatchewan is the increasingly attractive place to be."

The Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary was established through a partnership between the Saskatchewan Provincial Library and Literacy Office, Saskatchewan Ministry of Education and through the efforts of the Multitype Library Board and the Saskatchewan Library Association. The bursary was developed to promote the continued growth of professional librarianship in the province.

"I congratulate Mr. Chang on being the recipient of the 2010 bursary," Saskatchewan Libraries Association President Jeff Mason said. "He is very deserving. The knowledge and skills he will bring to the province will be a great benefit to Saskatchewan and its libraries."

"The Saskatchewan Libraries Education Bursary is an important program for attracting new professional librarians to our province," Multitype Library Board Chair Bryan Wilson said. "We are very pleased to award this year's bursary to Mr. Chang and wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
