REVIEWING TOURISM IN SASKATCHEWAN

The Government of Saskatchewan announced today that Western Management Consultants, in partnership with Jill Vandal from the Tourism Company, has been contracted to conduct a review of the tourism industry in Saskatchewan.

An advisory committee composed of government, Tourism Saskatchewan and industry stakeholders was established to develop the terms of reference for the review. The review will analyze the current state of tourism in Saskatchewan and identify significant trends, key players and threats.

"Tourism is an important part of our economy," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "By conducting a review of the industry, we're getting the tools we need to sustain and build on the momentum that already exists in Saskatchewan."

Since taking office, the current government has signalled a new commitment to supporting the tourism industry in Saskatchewan by doubling annual tourism funding.

The last time the province undertook an extensive review of the tourism industry was almost 10 years ago. The new review is expected to be completed by the end of March 2010.
