CELEBRATING PARKS WEEK IN SASKATCHEWAN

Saskatchewan's Provincial Parks will be celebrating Saskatchewan Parks Week, July 15 to 21, and Canada's Parks Day on July 21.

Environment Minister John Nilson is encouraging all residents to celebrate the unique natural and historic resources as well as the recreational opportunities offered by provincial, urban and regional parks.

"Saskatchewan is blessed with a diverse parks system established to enhance public access to outstanding natural areas and to preserve them for the future," Nilson said. "Saskatchewan parks continue to be major tourist attractions. I encourage everyone to visit a provincial park this summer to enjoy the natural beauty our parks have to offer."

Saskatchewan has celebrated Parks Week for 24 years. Parks Week helps to create awareness of park programs, facilities and natural, cultural and historic resources. It enhances awareness of the establishment of park lands and the importance of preservation, conservation and sustainable management for present and future generations. It also encourages people to visit Saskatchewan's parks.

Nilson also joined other provincial and territorial ministers responsible for parks in designating July 21 as Canada's Parks Day. Canada's Parks Day is an annual event celebrating the importance of Canada's national, provincial and territorial parks and focusing public attention on conserving Canada's natural and cultural heritage, in which parks play a major role.
