OFFICE OF THE PROVINCIAL CAPITAL COMMISSION ANNOUNCED

Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan today announced establishment of the Office of the Provincial Capital Commission (OPCC). Creation of the OPCC is an important first step toward better promoting and preserving distinctive heritage and cultural entities in the capital city.

"The Office of the Provincial Capital Commission fulfills an election promise and will help to promote our capital city as the seat of government for the province," Duncan said. "Initially it will oversee and co-ordinate a range of activities undertaken by provincially funded organizations and institutions located in the capital area."

This new organization brings together the Wascana Centre Authority, Government House, the Saskatchewan Archives, the Territorial Building and the Conexus Arts Centre to focus on a range of common goals. Deputy Provincial Secretary Rick Mantey has agreed to lead the work to establish the OPCC and will serve as its interim CEO.

"Creation of the OPCC is a starting point," Duncan said. "An advisory committee will be established to inform the future strategic direction of the office going forward. I'm looking forward to working with all stakeholders in the promotion of our provincial capital."
