News Release - February 10, 2006 NEW PROJECT HOPE YOUTH STABILIZATION SPACES OPENING
Saskatchewan youth will have access to more support for substance abuse and addictions issues as six new youth stabilization beds are opened in Saskatoon on February 13th. Four beds will be housed at Calder Centre and two will be located in the mental health unit of Royal University Hospital.
"The government recognizes the need for more services and is moving quickly on this initiative," Healthy Living Services Minister Graham Addley said. "It is imperative that Saskatchewan young people have a safe place to withdraw from alcohol and drugs and stabilize physically, emotionally and socially." The six youth stabilization beds are part of Project Hope, a three-year plan using a comprehensive, integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. The beds will be available on an interim basis. Construction of a permanent 12-bed unit is targeted to begin in the fall of 2006. "Saskatoon Health Region is eager to see the Youth Stabilization Unit up and running as soon as possible," Saskatoon Health Region Primary Health Vice President Shan Landry said. "Given the urgency of this need, we are pleased to provide six new beds as an interim solution for youth stabilization." -30- For More Information, Contact:
