SASKPOWER FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MOOSE JAW CULTURAL CENTRE

SaskPower is joining forces with the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre to support arts and culture in Moose Jaw, through its contribution of $20,000 toward construction of the downtown Cultural Centre.

"The construction of this new Cultural Centre will give both residents and visitors to Moose Jaw a chance to enjoy the talent of the city's arts and cultural community. The project also preserves an important heritage landmark in the community," Social Services Minister Glenn Hagel said, on behalf of Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag.

"As Saskatchewan's electric utility and largest Crown corporation, SaskPower has a commitment to nurture and contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the people of Saskatchewan. Each year, SaskPower provides approximately $1 million in annual support to hundreds of events across Saskatchewan, as well as select capital projects," Hagel said.

"The Moose Jaw Cultural Centre Builders are pleased to have SaskPower's support in bringing the downtown Cultural Centre one step closer to completion," fundraising co-ordinator for the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre Builders Dawn Luhning said. "The Centre will be an important hub in Moose Jaw's economic renewal."

Plans call for the Cultural Centre to be opened during Moose Jaw's centennial celebrations in 2003.
