News Release - June 17, 2011 HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICES PERSONNELCorrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert on behalf of the Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer, joined Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart to present 29 recipients with the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in Regina today. "These individuals, that we honour here today, have spent a quarter of a century ensuring our safety and security," Huyghebaert said. "They have contributed to the high quality of life that residents of our province enjoy every day, and they represent a long tradition of ingenuity, dedication and excellence - the true character of Saskatchewan." The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity. Today's recipients include firefighters, police officers, corrections workers, conservation officers and emergency medical responders. Established in 2003, the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal is administered by the Saskatchewan Protocol Office in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
