SASKATCHEWAN’S POPULATION CONTINUES TO GROW AT A RECORD PACE

Fastest Growing Province in Canada in the Last Quarter

Saskatchewan's Population is now at an all-time high of 1,063,535 people.

According to Statistics Canada, the number of people living in the province increased by 5,651 between July 1, 2011, and October 1, 2011. That's the most growth ever recorded in any quarter since StatsCan started keeping quarterly records in 1971, eclipsing the record of 5,444 set in the previous quarter of this year.

Saskatchewan had the fastest growth rate in of any province in the past quarter and the second-fastest, behind only Alberta, in the past year.

Premier Brad Wall said the continued record growth is one more sign Saskatchewan is on the right track.

"Today in Saskatchewan, there are a lot more people moving in than moving out, thanks to our strong economy and tremendous quality of life," Wall said. "Saskatchewan has grown by more than 11,000 people in just the past six months. Our government will continue working hard to meet both the opportunities and the challenges created by our growing population."

Saskatchewan continues to attract many people from other provinces and other countries. In the third quarter, 6,355 people moved to Saskatchewan from other provinces while 5,821 left Saskatchewan to move to another province - a net gain of 534 people.

There have been 2,962 people moved to Saskatchewan from Alberta, 1,299 from Ontario and 971 from BC.

Saskatchewan had a net international gain in the third quarter of 3,436 people and a natural increase (births minus deaths) of 1,681.

Saskatchewan's population has now increased in every quarter since April of 2006 and has grown by more than 70,000 people since that time.
