SASKWATER EXPANDS REGIONAL WATER SYSTEMS TO STAR CITY AND CUDWORTH

SaskWater will provide the communities of Star City and Cudworth with treated water this fall by expanding two regional water systems. SaskWater will invest about $1.8 million to expand its regional water supply system near Melfort to reach Star City and the Star City Colony. A $270,000 investment will pipe treated water to Cudworth from SaskWater's treatment plant outside Wakaw.

"SaskWater is pleased to bring a valuable resource to these Saskatchewan communities," Minister Responsible for SaskWater Ron Osika said. "Partnering with SaskWater will provide Star City and Cudworth with assurance that their residents are receiving a secure water supply that is quality from source to tap."

Lorne Campbell, Star City's Mayor, agrees that the Town needed to find a good supply of quality water as soon as possible. "We are concerned that our water supply was low and running out. By connecting to a treated water pipeline, we are assured of not only a continuous supply, but safe quality drinking water."

Cudworth Mayor Joe MacLeod believes Town Council has taken an important step toward building on their community's quality of life. "By bringing SaskWater on board as our water supplier, we are confident this new system will result in increased potential for economic development opportunities."

SaskWater draws water from Codette Lake on the North Saskatchewan River, treats it at the company's plant at Melfort and pipes it to Star City. Cudworth's water supply originates at the South Saskatchewan River and is treated at the SaskWater treatment plant near Wakaw.
