MAYTWAYASHING INQUEST

An inquest into the death of Allan Maytwayashing will be held January 19th to 22nd, 2004, at 9:30 am at the Prince Albert Queen's Bench Courthouse.

Mr. Maytwayashing, aged 23, was found hanging in his cell at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert on January 3rd, 2003.

Section 20 of The Coroners Act requires an inquest to be held into the death of any person who dies while an inmate in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility, unless the death was due to natural causes and was not preventable.

In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical cause of the death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.

Coroner, Alma Wiebe of Saskatoon will preside at the inquest.
