WEYBURN CONTRACTOR FINED FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS

A Weyburn contractor, Mark Bostock of Bostock Builders, has pleaded guilty to three counts under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act related to a failure to utilize a fall protection system, ensure a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised, and ensure that no person under the age of 16 years is employed on a construction site. Bostock was fined $2,720 in Weyburn Provincial Court on January 10, 2012.

Bostock was charged after a routine inspection of a construction site in Weyburn on April 26, 2011. Two workers were observed on a roof without fall protection and a person under the age of 16 was working on-site. Three other charges against Bostock were stayed.

Youth are more likely to be injured on the job compared to experienced workers. Occupational Health and Safety regulations limit where employers can allow young persons to work.

OHS has a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection.
