HARRADENCE NEW CHAIR OF SASKATCHEWAN LEGAL AID COMMISSION

Prince Albert lawyer Hugh Harradence, Q.C. has been appointed chair of the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission.

"Mr. Harradence brings a wealth of experience to his role as chair of the Commission," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. "His experience as a member of the Commission on First Nations and Métis Peoples and Justice Reform will be especially beneficial to the work of the Legal Aid Commission."

Partner in the firm Harradence Logue Holash, his practice is primarily in the area of criminal defence and civil litigation. Harradence has served as coroner in several high profile inquests. He is a former president of the Saskatchewan Chapter of the Canadian Bar Association, a bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and Vice Chair of the Criminal Code Board of Review.

"I extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Robert Gibbings, Q.C. for his commitment to the justice system," Quennell said. "He has ably fulfilled his role as acting chair and chair for the past four years."

Gibbings served on the Commission for more than eight years. He has resigned from the Commission to devote more time to his increasingly busy law practice.
