CHANGES TO SENIOR PUBLIC SERVICE

Premier Lorne Calvert announced changes today to several senior public service positions that will take effect July 1st, 2004.

"The moves I am announcing today represent a significant change to our senior public service," Calvert said. "Most of these appointments come from within and are a testament to the depth and talent of our public service."

John Wright will assume the role of Deputy Minister of Health. Wright has over 25 years of experience in the public service including Deputy Minister of Finance and most recently President of SaskPower.

Larry Steeves becomes the Deputy Minister of Northern Affairs. Steeves has been the Associate Deputy Minister, Municipal Relations Division of Government Relations and Aboriginal Affairs since February 2002.

Don Wincherauk will assume the role of Chief Information and Services Officer, Information Technology Office. Wincherauk comes from the Department of Highways and Transportation where he was an Assistant Deputy Minister.

John Law is the new Deputy Minster of Highways and Transportation. Most recently, Law was the Chief Information and Services Officer, Information Technology Office.

Deb McDonald has accepted the position of President of the Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation. Prior to being Chief of Staff to Premier Calvert, McDonald was the Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development and Director of Special Projects at Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation (SPMC).

Harvey Brooks has been appointed Deputy Minister of Government Relations, moving from his position as Deputy Minister of Highways and Transportation.

Al Hilton becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Government Relations.

Ray Clayton becomes the new President of Saskatchewan Transportation Company. Prior to this appointment Clayton was President of the Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation.

Effective August 1st, Bonnie Durnford becomes the Deputy Minister of Learning. Durnford has been the Deputy Minister of Community Resources and Employment since 2001.

Wynne Young has been appointed Deputy Minister of Community Resources and Employment effective August 1st. Young has served as the Chair of the Public Service Commission for the last seven years. Clare Isman will be the Acting Chair of the Public Service Commission.

Nora Sanders has accepted the position of Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs effective October 1st. Sanders most recently served as the Deputy Minister of Justice for Nunavut from April 1998 to May 2004.

Premier Calvert also announced a change in Executive Council. Lois Thacyk has accepted the role of Chief of Staff to the Premier effective July 12th. Thacyk is currently the Manager of Government Relations at SaskPower.
