News Release - May 20, 2009 POTENTIAL LOSS UNDER INVESTIGATIONThe Teachers' Superannuation Commission (TSC) has referred a case involving a potential loss to the Teachers' Superannuation Plan to police for investigation. On March 9, 2009, the Teachers' Superannuation Commission received a letter from the son of a superannuate advising that his father had died in September 2002. The result of not being notified of this death was a pension overpayment from the Teachers' Superannuation Plan in excess of $200,000 for the period of October 1, 2002 to February 28, 2009. The TSC has reviewed its internal controls, measuring against industry standards, and has found these to be consistent with other public pension plans in Saskatchewan. -30- For more information, contact: Dianne Shannon |
