NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION WEEK PROCLAIMED IN SASKATCHEWAN

Highways and Transportation Minister Eldon Lautermilch announced today that June 6 to 13 has been proclaimed National Transportation Week in Saskatchewan.

"Our transportation network helps make life better for Saskatchewan families and enables economic development," Lautermilch said. "National Transportation Week is an opportunity for people in Saskatchewan to reflect upon how the transportation system in Saskatchewan affects them and contributes to the growth and prosperity of our province."

National Transportation Week provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions of all of the hard working and dedicated professionals in the sector who keep the industry moving safely and efficiently.

Transportation for Economic Advantage, which was announced earlier this year by Premier Calvert and Lautermilch, will guide the development of Saskatchewan's transportation network for the next decade.

"Saskatchewan relies on exports, which generate about 70 per cent of all the goods and services produced in the province," Lautermilch said. "Transportation for Economic Advantage capitalizes on this fact so our transportation system can strengthen our province's already robust economy. This strategy will also continue to support our communities by linking First Nations, towns, villages and cities, while providing ongoing access to health care, education and recreation."
