News Release - May 27, 2011 QUALITY ASSURANCE CASE STUDIES NAMEDAdvanced Education, Employment and Immigration has selected the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) and Briercrest College and Seminary (BCS) as case studies for the ministry's quality assurance review process. They were the only institutions that applied to participate as case studies in this review. The case studies will be used in the development of a quality assurance review process to assess; whether an institution has the governance, management, organizational and financial capacity to operate as a degree-granting institution; and whether an institution's potential degree programs would meet established nationally recognized quality standards. The Government of Saskatchewan announced earlier this year that it was launching a public consultation process to consider expanding degree-granting status in the province. Currently, only the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina can grant degrees other than theological degrees. The quality assurance review process is being led by independent consultant Dr. Brian Gillespie. His work is expected to be completed by the summer of 2012.
