SASKPOWER PRESIDENT AND CEO STEPPING DOWN

Pat Youzwa is stepping down from her position as SaskPower president and CEO on January 4, 2010. Youzwa was appointed to the position in 2004.

"I extend my sincere thanks to Pat for her dedicated service to SaskPower, the Government of Saskatchewan and the people of Saskatchewan," Minister responsible for SaskPower Bill Boyd said. "We have been well served by her leadership at SaskPower during a period of rapid economic growth and I know she is proud of her many accomplishments."

During her tenure as president and CEO, Youzwa oversaw a number of major initiatives and investments in Saskatchewan's electrical infrastructure, including the commissioning of the Centennial Wind Power Facility. She also played an instrumental role in both Canada's and SaskPower's work to lead the development of carbon capture and storage technologies.

"After five years in the role, I just felt it was the right time," Youzwa said. "Things are at a point where I feel good about what we've accomplished, and I also believe that we have solid plans in place. This wasn't an easy decision to make, but I think it's the right one."

Given the importance and magnitude of the work currently underway on Saskatchewan's electricity supply future, Youzwa has agreed to serve as advisor to SaskPower, and special advisor to the Premier and the Minister responsible for SaskPower.

"Pat is well known among key participants in the North American energy and power industries and has in-depth knowledge as to the affairs of SaskPower and the challenges it faces," SaskPower Board Chair Joel Teal said. "I intend to call on Pat from time to time for guidance and advice as we move forward."

As special advisor to the Premier and Minister responsible for SaskPower, Youzwa will advise the government on matters ranging from energy and resource development in Saskatchewan, to environmental issues including carbon dioxide capture and storage to sustainable energy strategies.

Over the course of her career, Youzwa has served as Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Energy and Mines, has held senior roles on a number of corporate boards and industry associations and has served on industry committees formed to provide advice on energy matters to provincial and national governments.

"Pat has a wealth of experience beyond her role at SaskPower, so we look forward to seeking her views and counsel on a number of energy matters," Boyd said.

A national search for a new SaskPower president and CEO has already commenced.
