SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE RECOGNIZED ON LABOUR DAY

On Labour Day, residents are recognized for dedicating their skills and talents to building a secure and prosperous Saskatchewan.

"The hard work of Saskatchewan people is driving our economy and sustaining our economic momentum," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "On Labour Day, we recognize them for their many contributions, which help to make Saskatchewan a leader in Canada and the New West."

CIBC World Markets' Canadian Employment Quality Index reported in July that Saskatchewan is outpacing the rest of Canada in terms of employment quality, citing strong job gains in agriculture, energy extraction and mining exploration and developments.

"Saskatchewan has an excellent quality of life, an abundance of job opportunities, increased wages, healthy and safe workplaces and a fair and balanced labour relations environment," Norris said. "Our government remains committed to improving the lives of all people in the province, including workers, as we move forward on a path of security and prosperity."

The public holiday is celebrated on September 1 this year, and is celebrated each year on the first Monday in September. On Labour Day, Saskatchewan workers are entitled to take the day off of work and to receive regular pay. Those who work on the public holiday are entitled to time and a half in addition to holiday pay.
