News Release - May 24, 2007 LAUTERMILCH WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTIONAfter serving more than 20 years as a Member of the Saskatchewan Legislature, Highways and Transportation Minister Eldon Lautermilch has announced he will not be running in the next provincial election. He will continue to represent the constituents of Prince Albert Northcote until then. “It has been an honour to serve the people of this province, especially those in my constituency, and to work with an administration that has been focused on making life better for Saskatchewan people, by investing in highways and infrastructure, growing our strong economy and helping young people start their careers here at home,” Lautermilch said. “While I have been privileged to advance many policies and programs over the past two decades, I am most proud of the Calvert government’s unprecedented investment over the next ten years in our Transportation for Economic Advantage strategy, which will continue to position Saskatchewan to meet the future needs of our province’s thriving export-based economy.” Lautermilch was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1986, and was re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003. He was first appointed to Cabinet in 1992 and has been responsible for a number of portfolios including Energy and Mines, Rural Development, Economic and Co-operative Development, and currently Highways and Transportation, Saskatchewan Transportation Company, Saskatchewan Property Management and the newly formed Forestry Secretariat. “Eldon has worked tirelessly on behalf of his constituents and the people of Saskatchewan, and he can be proud of the contributions that he has made to this province and will continue to make in the coming months,” Premier Lorne Calvert said. “I thank him for his dedication and commitment, and wish him well in his future plans.” -30- For more information, contact: Jay Branch |
