SIX NEW HIGHWAY HOTLINE PHONE NUMBERS ADDED

Highways and Transportation Minister Andy Renaud today announced the
addition of six new Highway Hotline phone numbers to the provincial
road information service.

"Road information is now updated locally from 15 centres throughout the
province. This provides more accurate and up-to-date information on
highway conditions for motorists travelling on the provincial highway
system," Renaud said. "The Highway Hotline receives more than 250,000
phone enquiries every year so with our unpredictable winters we
recognize the value of the hotline to travellers in Saskatchewan."

The locations for the new phone number services are Carlyle, Elfros,
Tisdale, Meadow Lake, LaRonge and Buffalo Narrows. Previous hotline
numbers in Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Weyburn, Swift
Current, Prince Albert and North Battleford remain unchanged. Hotline
service formerly offered from Rosetown will now be available from
Kindersley. Recorded information is available on a 24-hour basis from
all locations and is updated at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
During severe weather conditions, information is updated as it occurs.

"The department maintenance sections were reorganized last spring into
15 area offices. We are pleased we can provide road information
services from each of these locations," Renaud said.

The role of the Highway Hotline has changed considerably with new
services continually being added to the system. In addition to highway
conditions, information is provided on provincially-operated ferries,
ice-road crossings, out-of-province road information numbers in winter
and road restriction orders in the spring. The information is also
available on the Internet.
