HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 43 recipients at HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.

Those receiving the medal today include: RCMP members from Warman, Swift Current, Saskatoon and Rosthern; municipal police from Saskatoon; fire protection personnel from Dundurn and Saskatoon; Department of National Defence staff from Saskatoon; and Correctional Service of Canada staff from Saskatoon.

"The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal allows us to honour the courageous men and women who make our lives more safe and secure in Saskatchewan," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
