MINIMUM WAGE TO INCREASE SEPTEMBER 1, 2011

Employers and minimum wage earners are reminded that Saskatchewan's minimum wage is going up effective September 1, 2011.

The Government of Saskatchewan will increase the province's minimum wage from $9.25 to $9.50 per hour, which will also result in a corresponding increase to the minimum call-out pay to $28.50.

"We will continue to review the minimum wage regularly and make adjustments as appropriate," Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said. "Our government has increased the minimum wage by 19.5 per cent since 2007. This represents a significant increase in pay for low income earners in Saskatchewan."

This increase will affect approximately 22,000 minimum wage earners in Saskatchewan, representing approximately five per cent of the paid workforce in Saskatchewan.
